Paresh Thakrar announced as new Bursar

9th March 2020

After 20 years of distinguished service to Winchester College, including six as Bursar, Steven Little will retire at the end of this academic year.

Having conducted a long, competitive process, managed by external consultants, the school is delighted to announce the appointment of Paresh Thakrar as the incoming Bursar. Paresh will join the school early in the Summer as we look to ensure a seamless handover. He will take up his new role formally in September.

Paresh has a First from Cambridge in Natural Sciences and Management; and an MBA (with Distinction) from the London Business School. He joins Winchester College after nearly 25 years spent in the private sector and working for government.

Paresh began his career in an investment bank, followed by roles in the Ministry of Defence and Foreign & Commonwealth Office, which included an overseas posting in Nairobi. Paresh was later at McKinsey & Company, based in London and joins the school from the reinsurance and asset management world, where he was Chief Operating Officer at Hiscox and, most recently, Commercial Director at Brit Insurance. Paresh is also a Trustee at the Charity, Parkinson's UK.

He has a passionate interest in education, which has driven this major change of direction.

He will be moving to Winchester with his family, including three young children, and we look forward to welcoming them into the Winchester College community.
