College Pupil Joins National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain

3rd October 2023

The Music Department is delighted to announce that Nye has been offered a place in the Trombone section of The National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. His fantastic achievement follows a rigorous multi-round audition process, including an all-day creative workshop at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester.

In their feedback, the selection panel of eminent professional musicians noted that Nye's"...playing was exceptional and your commitment to playing your part really shone out.”

Nye will begin in the 160 musician strong Orchestra this winter and will be involved in multiple residential courses and concerts throughout the UK as well as mentoring musicians from less represented backgrounds through the ‘NYO Inspire’ programme.

Head of Wind, Brass and Percussion, Tom Barton, commented “Nye is a shining example of a Music Award Holder at Winchester College and his commitment to diligent early morning practice and music ensembles have enabled him to take his dreams to the highest level. The competition for places is fierce, with many applicants in their final year of school, which makes Nye’s success at the beginning of Year 10 even more exciting.”
