All pupils and parents are invited to join the school in celebrating Illuminā at the end of the last day of term.
The event commemorates the removal of a wall in 1862 which separated some of the boarding houses. The removal of the wall gave greater recreational space for pupils and allowed boys from all houses to integrate and build relationships across the school. Just before the wall was removed boys placed lit candle stubs into niches in the wall, a tradition that is still carried on by current pupils.
Today, Illuminā is a magical end-of-term event involving candles, a bonfire, stalls, carols, mulled wine, hot drinks, and nibbles.
3.30pm: Event opens with the opportunity to support local businesses, including the College Charity Stall.
4.05pm: Lighting and laying of candles by JP Collegemen in Sicily Wall
4.15pm: Performances by Voces and the lighting of the bonfire by the Headmaster.
4.30pm: Enjoy the College choir as they sing some favourite carols.
5.00pm: Domum sung around the bonfire, followed by a bagpipe performance to mark the end of the event.
5.30pm: Event closes.
Please note some house specific events will continue after Illuminā ends.
