Message from the Second Master
The day of the state funeral for Her Majesty the Queen is Monday 19 September and has been announced as a national Bank Holiday. It is hoped that families will be able to watch the event together and therefore schools have been asked to close. I write to confirm the school's plans for the extended weekend.
Boarders may leave school after services on Sunday morning and return on Monday evening. There will be no lessons or activities of any kind on Monday. Boarders should return between 1700 – 1900 on Monday evening. Members of Symphony Orchestra should return by 1830 for their rehearsal. Toytime will take place as usual, and tea will be available from 1800. Tuesday will be a normal school day.
For those pupils unable to travel home, we ask more locally-based parents to consider whether they feel able to welcome a friend of their child as a guest for this historic occasion. Pupils who cannot be away from school for this period will of course be accommodated and cared for at school.
Please complete the weekend sign out form below, confirming plans for your child, by 2300 on Wednesday 14 September.
War Cloister
At 0945 on Sunday 11 September, the whole school gathered for a Commemoration Service, marking the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
There was a reading from Ruth 1: 14-18 and John Donne's poem No Man Is An Island. The service concluded with the National Anthem, followed by the Lament, played by Pipe Major James Dawson.
