From the Headmaster

Welcome

A warm welcome to Winchester to all those joining us for the first time, as well as our returning pupils and parents. We have a number of new staff joining us and will introduce some of them via the newsletter over the coming weeks.

The term offers numerous opportunities for parents to get together or attend events at the school. Parents are always welcome at sports fixtures, concerts and plays but I would also commend this term’s full programme of talks. You will find more details below.

Supporting the Players

Parents are very welcome to attend sports fixtures. Full details and timings can be viewed via the link below. The team sheet password is TeamWinColl.

At the big block fixture afternoons, parents’ after-match tea is located on the terrace underneath Musa (known as Loggia) for the first half of term and upstairs when the weather turns.

We want to ensure the side-lines are areas of positivity with enthusiastic and respectful encouragement, both at Winchester and at away venues. Thank you for your support.

Please be aware that parking spaces on campus are severely limited and note the school's policy on filming and photography of events, which can be read here.

Sixth Form

Pupils' Summer of Teaching

A group of Sixth Form pupils spent the summer teaching online to deliver education to children in a remote part of Nepal.

The pupils had developed a plan to provide online education to children in need as part of their involvement in Investor Soc last year. Following a meeting with the founder of Impact Schools, they decided to support the charity's work by donating their time, knowledge and resources.

They are now raising funds to provide sustained, reliable WiFi to the school so that the children can continue their learning.

Fun Run

On Friday 23 September every pupil in the school will be involved in a fun run event to raise money for the Lotus Flower Trust. The aim is to raise £8000 to build a farm for the nunnery school that Wykehamists helped to build in 2014.

The pupils' target is to collectively run 4000km. All support is greatly appreciated. Parents are welcome to attend on the day and there will be a bake sale.

Remembering

Major General Stuart Watson CBE (F, 1936 - 41)

Major General Stuart Watson CBE, D-Day veteran and long-serving Colonel of Hussars, died on 14 August 2022, aged 100.

A pupil at Winchester between 1936 - 41, he continued to be an inspiration at the school. For Remembrance Day 2020, the Head of the CCF interviewed Major General Watson, in which he reflected on his experience of D-Day and noted the importance of giving young people responsibility.
