From the Headmaster
Until 2008 the school had as many as fifty day pupils at any one time. This September we look forward to the arrival of just over twenty day pupils, of whom about three quarters will be girls.
These pupils will join four carefully selected houses (Toye’s, Furley’s, Beloe’s and Trant’s), and further detail is being sent to these parents separately; from 2023, day pupils will join other boarding houses. There will be an additional social space for female pupils in Oakeshott’s in Kingsgate Street: this will include changing and washing facilities, as well as a place to socialise and study.
Day pupils have gone through the usual rigorous admission process, and interviewers have remarked with satisfaction on the quality of the field. The memory of dons who remember the school in the early years of this century, as well as the judgement of those now involved in the selection process, give much confidence of success in this (partially) new era.
Our school community is deeply troubled by the situation in Ukraine and our thoughts are with all those families affected.
Winchester values its international dimension and seeks to prepare pupils for life in a wider world characterised by peacefulness, tolerance and respect.
Some pupils and staff will wish to take specific actions in response to current events, such as by assisting with humanitarian aid. As always, the school will be supporting pupils to ensure that relationships between nations do not at any time negatively affect harmonious relations within our own community.

Invitation
Parents are invited to view a remarkable exhibition of the College's silver this week. On show will be about 80 ceremonial items, some dating back nearly 600 years, set out on tables decorated in the manner of a College feast.
This is the first time in living memory that such a magnificent collection of the College’s silver has been brought together. Refreshments will be served in the form of a 17th century recipe of a spiced wine called hippocras (non-alcoholic).

Over Leave-out we learnt that a record three of our pupils have been invited to Round 2 of the UK Chemistry Olympiad out of a total of 34 competitors nationally, and a total of 15 from Winchester won Gold medals in Round 1.
Round 2 of the competition is a 3-day training and selection event in the Easter holidays, and is used to identify the team of four plus a reserve who will go on to represent the UK in the international competition in the summer.
Congratulations to all prize winners, in particular the three pupils selected for Round 2:
Gorn Namchittai (VI Book 1, College)
Ivan Shatrov (VI Book 1, College)
The Director of Sport shares his report from the week before Leave-out, with news of competitive Basketball, Squash, and Judo.
